British Columbia issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to 356 candidates under various categories of its Provincial Nomination Program.
Under the Skilled Immigration stream, the minimum score for Skilled Worker, International Graduate, and Entry Level and Semi-Skilled categories were 85, 95, and 68 points respectively. Applicants in the Express Entry pool qualified for invitations under the Skilled Worker and International Graduate categories with minimum scores of 85 and 95 points respectively.
This 30th January 2019 draw was a virtual replica of the first two draws conducted in 2019. The minimum scores to qualify for the ITA has, for all the categories, remained unchanged through all the three draws. However, the number of ITAs issued has risen sharply, from just 151 ITAs in the first draw to 316 in the second and to 356 invitations in the latest draw.
The Skilled Immigration stream or pathway is for skilled and semi-skilled workers specializing in one of the high-demand occupations of the province. The Express Entry stream, as the name suggests, is for applicants who qualify under a federal program for skilled worker immigration and are seeking a provincial nomination.
Interestingly, the EE stream covers those qualifying under all three federal programs i.e. the FSWP, the CEC, and the FSTP. Other requirements include minimum two-years direct work experience in the occupation under which one is applying, necessary certifications and qualifications to pursue the occupation in the province, and either possess or be eligible for legal immigration status in Canada.
Except for the Entry Level and Semi-Skilled category, applicants are not required to necessarily possess work experience in the province. Applicants under other skilled worker categories are eligible even if they have foreign work experience.
International Graduates qualify for the provincial nomination by virtue of their study experience in Canada, and hence are not subject to any work experience requirement. However, they are required to have a full-time and permanent job offer in hand to qualify for nomination. Having a permanent job offer from an eligible employer in the province is a mandatory requirement for applicants to qualify for an ITA.
